Here at First Class Supply, we are really proud of the difference we make to our local community, especially our local schools.
Our ethos is simple – it’s important to us to ‘give something back’ and we’re delighted to have made a real difference in our partner schools. Not as ‘one offs’, but consistently in recognition of the relationships we have formed.
Our exclusive partnerships with the well-respected Newcastle United Foundation, the Newcastle Falcons Community Foundation and Seven Stories, the National Centre for Children’s Books, has enabled us to ensure thousands of local school children have enjoyed interactive workshops, events and unique sporting experiences and training at no cost to our schools.

A group of school children from Broadway East First School in Gosforth have participated in a unique educational experience thanks to leading North East supply-teaching agency First Class Supply.
Over 30 pupils visited St James’ Park for a behind the scenes look at the stadium to learn more about the history of Newcastle United as part of Newcastle United Foundation’s ‘Toon Times’ educational programme. ‘Toon Times’ uses the power of football to improve the literacy and learning techniques of children across the region and will reach 12,000 pupils by 2015. Pupils discussed how much the stadium and club had changed since its formation in 1892, before ending their tour with a press conference with a difference in the club’s media suite.
Pupils interviewed former Newcastle United player, Dave Hilley, who played for the club during the 1960s. Mr Hilley answered a variety of questions from pupils as they got to know first-hand what it was like playing for the football club in a different era and then had the opportunity to put questions to members of the club’s Academy side to understand the modern side of the game.
Gavin Ferry, Toon Times Project Coordinator, said; ‘The pupils have had a great day immersed in the history of Newcastle United and put some fantastic questions to both past and present players. Toon Times aims to bring history to life and change pupil’s perceptions of what history is all about making it fun and engaging. We can only do this with the support of key Foundation partners like First Class Supply.”
Director, Lesley Robinson said:
‘Good teaching is all about making the subject relevant and enjoyable and Toon Times achieves that brilliantly by revisiting the history of Newcastle United. It’s a fantastic way to engage and inspire children in the North East which is why we are proud to support the scheme’.
A major exhibition will open, free of charge, at the Discovery Museum in February 2014 as part of ‘Toon Times’ project. For more information, please contact foundation@nufc.co.uk.
Newcastle United Foundation’s Toon Times project is proudly supported by First Class Supply, PLPFA, Heritage Lottery and Tyne and Wear Museums.
